Dozens of outfitters.
Almost impossible to tell them apart.

The photos look great across the board. The websites are polished. The testimonials are glowing. From Texas or Colorado or the UK, it's almost impossible to tell a world-class operation from a mediocre one — until you're already there.

Trophy quality, terrain, guide experience, and lodge standard vary enormously between properties. The hunters who come back raving found the right outfit for what they actually wanted. Not just any outfit. The right match.

That's the gap we fill. We're in Queenstown. We know who's delivering and who isn't. Tell us what you're after and we'll point you straight.

Species & seasons

What serious hunters
come to the South Island for.

Red Stag

Cervus elaphus

Prime: The Roar — Mar / Apr

The headline act. Private estates through Central Otago producing SCI scores from 300 to 700+. Free-range and estate options at different price points. Don't leave it late.

Himalayan Tahr

Hemitragus jemlahicus

Best: Apr — Aug

Technical high-altitude hunting in the Southern Alps. Big bulls above the treeline — physically demanding, genuinely wild, one of the most rewarding hunts in the Southern Hemisphere.

Chamois

Rupicapra rupicapra

Best: Apr — Sep

New Zealand's most underrated hunt. Agile, wary, found in serious alpine terrain. The hunters who've done it rarely stop at one. Often combined with tahr for a full high-country week.

Fallow Buck

Dama dama

Rut: Mar — May

Outstanding palmated antlers with strong trophy quality across South Island private properties. Often added to a red stag hunt as a second species — great value between main stalks.

Peak season

The Roar. NZ's prime hunting window.

March and April. Red stags vocal, active, and in hard antler. The best properties fill their roar dates well ahead of time. If 2026 is on your radar — or you're planning 2027 — the earlier you're in touch, the better your options.
